Fall Coaching Clinics are a Huge Success!!!

Last night was the final coaching clinic for the Fall of 2010. Over the course of August we conducted over 30 clinics. The PYSA coaching education staff worked with over 500 coaches during the various clinics.

the clinics covered topics such as Age Appropriate Training, Introduction to Goalkeeping, and Transitioning from 4v4 to 6v6, 6v6 to 8v8, and 8v8 to 11v11. We have received some very positive feedback from the coaches who attended the clinics.

As we move in to September I want to remind all of our coaches that I am available to come out and work with you and your teams during the Fall season. Just email me at technicaldirector@portlandyouthsoccer.com so that we can find a day and time that works for both of us.

If you coach in the U11 - U14 age groups don't forget to register for the Inaugural PYSA Fall League Cup!!!

See you on the fields!

MLS Season Begins!

One of the best ways to learn about the game is to watch it at its highest level. In the US the highest level of soccer is Major League Soccer (MLS).

The MLS season begins tonight when the Seattle Sounders take on the newest addition to the league, the Philadelphia Union. This will be the first regular season match for the Union.

The game will be on ESPN 2 at 6:30 pm. I encourage everyone to support soccer in the United States by watching as many MLS games as you can!!

National GK License

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!! This first post of 2010 is being written from Carson, CA at the US Soccer National GK License. I am taking the course and will be providing a daily update about the course and the topics it covers.

Tonight we had a great session about Sports Psychology and howe it applies to GK's. GK's are often called crazy and different, and the psychologist that spoke tonight confirmed it. We have another psych lecture in the morning. I will definitely be posting about Sports Psychology this spring.

Ill write agin tomorrow!
